Three men fell into the Arkansas River Wednesday around 11 a.m. when the scaffolding they were working on collapsed. The three men were doing construction work on the Interstate 430 bridge in Little Rock when they fell 100 feet into the water. The workers, whom authorities did not identify, were presumed dead, after a recovery operation turned up no sign of the men about an hour after their fall.

Around 7 p.m., the wreckage was lifted from the river by a crane and transferred to a nearby barge. The body of one of the workers was then found to be tangled in a rope attached to the wreckage. According to CNN.com, the platform they had been working on was large enough to sustain the weight of the men, two generators, and a welding machine; the platform had also been checked for safety problems earlier in the day. Renda Contracting Inc., the company the men worked for, will be in contact with the men’s families.
